Ordinary power graphite electrode (RP) is a kind of artificial graphite conductive material, which uses petroleum coke and asphalt coke as aggregates and coal tar as binder. It is made through multiple processes such as raw material calcination, crushing and grinding, batching, kneading, molding, roasting, impregnation, graphitization, machining, etc. It is a conductor that releases electric energy in the form of electric arc in an electric arc furnace to heat and melt the furnace charge.
•General conductivity: It can meet the conductivity requirements of ordinary power electric furnaces, and the current density allowed is less than 17A/cm².
Good high temperature resistance: It can withstand the high temperature environment in the electric furnace and maintain stable physical and chemical properties to a certain extent.
•Certain mechanical strength: It has sufficient strength to ensure that it is not easy to break or damage during use, and can withstand the weight of the electrode itself and the various forces it is subjected to in the furnace.
•Good chemical stability: During the smelting process, it is not easy to react chemically with various substances in the furnace, which ensures the service life of the electrode and the smelting effect.
•Long production cycle: Usually the production cycle of ordinary power graphite electrodes is about 45 days.
•High energy consumption: The production of 1t ordinary power graphite electrode requires about 6000kW・h of electricity, thousands of cubic meters of coal gas or natural gas, and about 1t of metallurgical coke particles and metallurgical coke powder.
•Many production processes: Covering many processes such as raw material calcination, crushing and grinding, batching, kneading, molding, roasting, impregnation, graphitization and mechanical processing.
•Environmental protection requirements: A certain amount of dust and harmful gases will be generated during the production process, and it is necessary to take comprehensive environmental protection measures for ventilation, dust reduction and elimination of harmful gases.
•Unstable raw material supply: The carbonaceous raw materials required for production, such as petroleum coke and coal tar, are by-products of production and processing by oil refining enterprises and coal chemical enterprises. The quality and stability of the raw materials are difficult to fully guarantee.
•Steelmaking field: used in ordinary power steelmaking electric furnaces, the high temperature generated by the electric arc is used to melt the furnace charge to achieve steel smelting.
•Silicon smelting industry: in the ore-fired electric furnace for producing industrial silicon, it is used as a conductive electrode to provide the necessary electrical energy for the chemical reaction in the furnace.
•Yellow phosphorus smelting industry: it is an important conductive material for electric furnaces used in yellow phosphorus production, helping to form a high temperature environment in the furnace and promote the formation of yellow phosphorus.
•Other fields: The blanks of graphite electrodes can also be used to process into various special-shaped graphite products such as crucibles, molds, boats and heating elements.
